Introduction
The regeneration of the former Sugar Beet Factory was one of the most sensitive in the area of Allscott, a small town in Telford. The site is located to the South of Shawbirch Road (B 4394), Allscott, and to the North of the main London to Northwest Railway Line.
The main bulk of the Site was the former British Sugar Plant Facility Site with an additional area comprised of a single large field which has been used for agricultural purposes with a former sugar beet railway sidings embankment present which previously joined to the main line. The combined areas totalled approximately 27 Hectares.
EDR were tasked with the remediation and earthworks on the 27 Hectares site of the former British Sugar Beet Factory, in preparation for 400 new homes. The site had sat derelict for over 10 years, after preliminary site investigations identified hydrocarbon hot spots throughout.
EDR gave SJ Roberts confidence that their remediation and earthworks stratergies would provide the client with the project required.
Works Description
EDR’s demolition strategy was to break out and remove 250,000m2 of historic slabs, foundations, and basements from the site. The concrete removed was processed and crushed to a 6f2 grading for the client to reuse on their development.
The Earthworks strategy was running hand in hand with the Remediation strategy and the formation models were inserted as the progressive turnover was complete
