Project Value £1,200,000.00
Project Programme Period 51 Weeks
Type of works Demolition

Introduction

Situationed on the busy Welford Road in Leicester City Centre, the 1960s building was nine storeys at its highest point, and had two, and three-Storey sections either side of the tower.

Works Description

The demolition approach initially focused on the removal of Asbestos from the buildings followed by the soft strip, removing all soft furnishings from the building before demolition works commenced.

Demolition works involved specialist high-reach rigs to demolish the buildings progressively, using the smaller machines on the ground to process and crush the materials. This allowed EDR to crush the concrete materials to a Type 1 for recycling and distribution to projects throughout the city centre, meaning less vehicle movements and benefits of recycled aggregate to the local community.
