Introduction

Pottery Lane is a 40,000m2, major PRS build to rent residential development comprising some 511 units, on the banks of the River Tyne in the city centre of Newcastle.

The buildings are laid out in two plots, arranged around landscaped courtyards.

Each phase comprises a mix of apartment types including studios, 1 and 2 bed apartments aimed at the young professional market, designed with a generous amount of communal amenity space -which plays an integral part of the architecture.

The proposals are to take the existing brown field site and contribute to a significant upgrade of the public realm, creating a welcoming pedestrian environment along Pottery Lane.

Works Description

Based on the summary of the identified contamination, the objective of the remediation works in respect of contamination was the removal of pathway between inorganic (arsenic, lead, copper), asbestos and organic (PAH) contamination in the made ground and future end users of the site i.e. residents.

The approved remediation strategies targeted the significant reduction in key contaminant concentrations utilizing a progressive turnover and reclamation strategy to identify and excavate areas heavily impacted ground.
